Yeast Infection Symptoms

If you don’t know what a yeast infection is or the symptoms of one you may never realize what you have only that something is wrong. A lot of the public is unaware of what yeast infections are, they only recognize the term because of the corny commercials advertising easy treatment options available through a prescription or over the counter. Yeast infections are caused by an overproduction of yeast in the vagina which causes a fungal infection and inflammation. They are extremely common and most women will have one at one point or another. The good thing is treatment is simple and they are relatively non-threatening. Here is what to look for.

Overly itchy vaginal area Your vaginal region may be extremely itchy and burn at times. This is not normal and while itching it may seem to make it feel better temporarily it will just make things worse by further irritating the area.

Pain when peeing Urination may have suddenly taken on a new challenge, it hurt. Flat out hurts. Peeing pain is not normal and should be taken care of immediately before it worsens. It may feel like a burning sensation but not a “hot” feeling just straight pain as you pee.

Heavy and thick discharge Some white or even clear colored discharge is normal and every female has this from time to time. But if your discharge is suddenly thick, heavy and unusually frequent this is also a sign. However this a symptom of a lot of different conditions so you can’t be certain it’s a yeast infection right off the bat.

Sore vagina and vulva Your entire vulva and vagina may be sore. This can range from a general discomfort to a full on pain that is persistent and so frustrating you find it hard to concentrate. You may also find that certain seated positions are difficult because of the discomfort. This may or may not be tolerable.

Sex is uncomfortable If intercourse is painful hold off for a while until your infection has been treated and cured. The inflammation of the vagina is what causes the pain because it restricts the hole where insertion occurs and makes any irritation to the area unbearable. Avoid insertion of any kind at this point because it will only make the condition worse.
